My dear Ülementi,

I have been thinking over your despatch Number

49 of September 27th about the Chinese Telegraph Offias

in Hong Kong and meanwhile have received a further son-

manidation from Dr. Yung on the subject, a tr∙nelation

of which is malostá.

I am moet anxious to get this petty affair

tidied up, but I honestly don't think there in mach chunac

of doing so if we continue on the present lines of argu-

ing what the chinese ought to do. For instance, if I

were to communiste the sense of your present despatah

to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, I really do not

think it would help us in the least. Owing to the 300-
